How much work goes into your PKI?
Make the manual effort of certificate renewals visible. Compare it with automated workflows using your own assumptions.
Calculate your environmentAutomatic bindings. Visible effort.
1. How x.BIND works
Once: the x.509 Security Baseline defines the security rulebook.
- 01
Add a host or application
Provision a Windows host or install a supported service.
- 02
Restart
x.BIND configures the appropriate certificate bindings and settings according to the rulebook.
- 03
Continue operating automatically
Routine renewals run automatically, including at short certificate lifetimes.
Many services are supported. Additional applications can be integrated as needed. Special requirements may need an additional system rule. Initial provisioning is illustrated here; the calculator evaluates ongoing operations.
2. Your environment
How do you handle a renewal today? Estimates are enough to get started.
Internal inventory
Public TLS inventory
Optionally use quote values
No public list prices. Use your quote: a monthly price per host plus a fixed monthly Core Service base fee. Certificate and endpoint counts do not increase the host price.
Billing can be monthly or annual: the calculator uses twelve monthly amounts. No discounts or additional product fees are assumed. Quote values are required for net benefit and payback; other selected solutions are entered separately.
Estimate effort
This range is an illustrative scenario, not an industry benchmark. You can change the value above at any time; more than 90 minutes is also possible.
Include the entire active workflow: coordination, preparing the change, processing approval, technical renewal, function checks and documentation. Add up the working time of everyone involved. Waiting for a scheduled change or approval is not working time.
For multiple services, allocate shared change and approval work across service renewals. Enter domain validation and audits separately if their effort is not already included here.
Include other tasks
Working time of everyone involved combined. Count evidence preparation and queries once across the environment; exclude technical activities already counted.
Product assignments describe possible areas of use. Confirm the actual scope and times in a quote or POC.
Calculation and assumptions
x.BIND follows the once-defined x.509 Security Baseline. Automatic routine renewals default to 0 manual minutes. Special system rules are counted separately, independently of certificate lifetime.
Public TLS and validation
Maximum lifetimes for newly issued public TLS certificates: 200 days from 15 March 2026, 100 from 15 March 2027, and 47 from 15 March 2029. Shorter renewal cycles are editable examples with lead time. They are not automatic requirements for internal PKIs. CA/Browser Forum
Count validation separately from bindings. Enter the average effort per issuance without work already counted elsewhere. From 15 March 2029, domain/IP validation data can be reused for at most 10 days; this does not imply a fixed validation run every ten days. Validation periods

Detailed total calculation
| Task | Before | After | Difference |
|---|
Economic net benefit = workload reduction × hourly rate − annual total costs. Setup = other setup costs + once-only baseline hours × hourly rate. Payback = total setup cost ÷ positive annual net benefit. ROI over the period = (working-time value over the period − setup − running costs) ÷ (setup + running costs).
The model estimates constant operations over full years. No inventory growth, discounting or implementation delay. Check quantities, times and prices against your environment. Additional effort can make the reduction negative. Audit effort is counted once across the environment; different tasks must not include the same activities.
PCI DSS, DORA, NIS2, BSI requirements and ISO 27001 can provide the audit context. The model does not assess compliance or promise a passed audit or avoided outages.
